Assignment 7: Growing Leaders

According to Dr. Tim Elmore, an Internship is a "12 week Interview". You are simulating the job you may, or eventually will, have one day. Dr. Tim writes about his friend he had been talking to prior to writing his blog post, who was complaining about the six college interns he had invited to work there. As interns, it is important that we approach our internship as Dr. Elmore suggests. Seeing it not as the 'cool internship we landed', and treating it as an actual job. The 4 most important attitude points to keep in mind as an Intern are: Teachability, Initiative, Responsibility and Energy. If you exhibit all these points as an intern, you will succeed in the workforce and satiate the hunger that comes with being an emerging leader.

As an intern at Aeon Global Health, these 4 points are intrinsic to my success as an intern. Without them, I would not be able to experience/grasp the new concepts I learn each and every day I intern there. Just last week, because I was well ahead of the game, I was able to watch a new experiment take place in the Hereditary Cancer lab. Dr. Kevin, and his co-workers, switched from Buccal Swab Extraction to Saliva Extraction, which requires a much more indepth process to extract the DNA but results in much better and clearer results.
